What it does

Record

A clean, uncompressed master. No file size limit, and it keeps going with the screen off. Use the phone mic, a USB or Lightning interface, or a soundboard feed.

Mark

Tap Mark on the phone or Apple Watch when a song starts. Move or fix marks later on the waveform.

Two devices

Record with a second phone or iPad. Start, stop and marks on one run both.

Split and upload

Split at your marks into FLAC or WAV with tags and cover art. Sign in to archive.org and upload from the app. Your master is never touched.

Questions

What if my phone dies in the middle of the show?

Taper saves to disk as it goes. Your show comes back the next time you open the app, marked Recovered, with a note on how much audio was saved. You lose at most the last few seconds.

Taper warns you before the show if the battery is under 30%, and again at 10%. At 3% it stops and saves the show properly. A synced second phone keeps recording.

Does it change my recording?

No. The master stays as recorded. The headphone EQ never touches it, and the EQ copy for upload is optional.

Does Taper collect my data?

No. There are no accounts with us, no analytics and no ads. Read the privacy page.

Is Taper made by the Internet Archive?

No. It is a companion to the Live Music Archive and is not made by or endorsed by the Internet Archive.

Please tape where it is allowed

Only record where the band and the venue are fine with it. When in doubt, ask. Taper reminds you the first time you record.
